In the Word vs. in the World

August 30, 2016

I notice a difference within myself on the days I have or haven't been in the Word. The days where I have spent time in the Word my attitude, outlook, and emotional well being are so much more positive than the days where I didn't spend time any time reading my Bible or reciting Scripture in my mind throughout the day. On the days when I haven't spent much time acknowledging God in everything or I haven't paid much attention to His Word I see a drastic downward change in my attitude and how I can allow my emotions to take a hold of me and I find that to be very harmful to my well being. When my mind isn't focused on God's Word I am automatically "in the world". I say that because if I'm not paying attention to scripture and what God needs to tell me that day or haven't given God control of my day then I have just let my spiritual shield down. If i'm not listening to what Scripture has to tell me then I am listening to what the world has to tell me which gives me the opposite message of God's Word. I looked at my journal earlier tonight and saw that I have not spent time in the Word for six days and I can sure tell I was not in the Word for those days. On these days I wasn't in the Word I felt grouchy, exhausted, and just kind of drained overall. My peace that only comes from God wasn't very present in those days and it took a toll on me physically. When I spend time in the Word I feel refreshed and ready to take on the world not live in and be of it. I feel abundant peace when I have allowed myself time to pray that God will handle whatever my day holds and put my trust in Him. Once I try to take back my life and try to do things without spending time with God, that's when my peace begins to slip and I begin to feel spiritually fatigued. i find it so important to stay in the Word and to get my daily dose of it so that I can be refreshed in scripture and ready for my day while I continue to ponder over scripture throughout the day; God's Word is a powerful vessel in our daily lives. It's important for me to stay in God's Word so that I may be all that God wants me to be, so that I may be a pleasant servant unto Him instead of a grouchy person who doesn't feel like doing much. While talking about staying in the Word, it;s one thing I believe my mom developed as a daily habit. My mom constantly fed herself the Word either by watching TBN, listening to the Bible, reading her Bible, or listening to her favorite preachers' ministry download. She prayed and talked to God daily which she always encouraged me to do. ("Pray about it") My mom is a great example for me of diligent faith expressed by staying in the Word. Sure my mom had moments when the world frustrated and affected her, but she always retreated back to God and His Word which was her foundation of joy through all of the obstacles life through at her. Sometimes I wonder how my mom kept her joy, but then I begin to think how can someone not be joyful when they allow God to be the source of all happiness and not what the world has to offer. My mom kept her joy because of her diligence in staying in tune to what not only God's Word had to stay, but God Himself. If we allow ourselves to indulge in what the world offers instead of what God offers we won't be peaceful and joyful people, but we will be shaped with the negative attitude toward life which the world offers. I'm glad I'm able to see a difference within myself on days which I have or haven't been in the Word because I can recognize that I need God to be the person I want to be; the person He can use for His glory. Psalm 1: 2-3 (Amplified version, Bible Gateway)But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.3 And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].I want to be like the tree planted firmly by streams of water by meditating on His Word day and night. Amen!Blessings
